Quick Overview:

This Heucherella villosa hybrid holds up very well in the hot, humid summers of the Southeast. ?Sweet Tea? forms a clump of large, dissected foliage in a very unique shade of orange. The spring foliage is a delicious shade of apricot orange with a burgundy center blotch, and as the weather warms up the foliage darkens in color. Coppery orange, russet, and cinnamon tones dominate in summer.
Though small white flowers appear in late spring, this plant is really grown for its unique foliage color. The special orange coloration of ?Sweet Tea? makes it a wonderful plant to complement the entryway of brick houses or containers on brick patios.

Heucherella is a hybrid genus produced from a cross between Heuchera and Tiarella. The villosa species is more heat and drought tolerant, making this an ideal selection for regions with hot, steamy summers.

Description

Best grown in organically rich, humusy, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Performs well in full sun in the north, but prefers some shade (particularly in the heat of the afternoon) in the south. Best foliage color may occur in sunny spots with part afternoon shade. Scorch and general foliage decline usually occur if soils are allowed to dry out. If grown in full sun, consistent moisture is particularly important. Remove stems of faded flowers to encourage additional bloom and to tidy plantings so that the attractive foliage can be fully appreciated. In cold winter climates, a winter mulch applied after the ground freezes will help prevent root heaving. Divide clumps in spring every 3-4 years.
