Quick Overview:

Masses of graceful, vivid purple flower spikes add carefree color to the garden for weeks, enticing pollinators and human admirers alike. The dark buds on the main spikes open in midsummer, and the show continues on a succession of secondary flower spikes.

Description

Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun. Best performance occurs with consistent, regular moisture combined with sharp soil drainage, particularly in winter. Plants have shallow roots and are generally intolerant of dry soil conditions. Tolerates light shade. Remove spent flower spikes to encourage additional bloom. Plants may be cut back to basal growth after flowering.  (Courtesy of Missouri Botanical Gardens Plant Finder)
