Quick Overview:

The showy pink funnel-shaped flowers of this Aromi hybrid cultivar ‘Pink Carousel’ open from scarlet buds in mid-spring. The clustered blooms bear a gold blotch on their upper petals. The upright medium-sized plants have lance-shaped light green leaves. Aromi azaleas prefer partial shade and highly organic acid soil that is evenly moist but well drained. Plant them shallowly and mulch well to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. They like warm summers and cool winters and require some winter cold for optimal growth. The flower buds develop in summer for the following spring’s display, so prune shortly after flowering, if necessary. Ideally, plant them where they will not require pruning.

Best grown in acidic, light, sandy, well-drained soils in part shade. Tolerates well-drained humusy loams. Prefers a sun dappled shade or high open part shade. Foliage may scorch in full sun. Acidify soils prior to planting and thereafter as needed. Shallow, fibrous root systems (do not cultivate around shrubs).will benefit from a good mulch (wood chips, bark or pine needles) for retention of moisture, stabilization of soil temperatures and winter protection. Consistent moisture is best, but soils must drain well (doesn’t like wet feet). Poor drainage inevitably leads to root rot, therefore raised beds/plantings should be considered in heavy clay soils. Roots must never be allowed to dry out. Clip off spent flower clusters immediately after bloom as practicable. Slowly naturalizes by root suckers.
