Hosui is a highly popular Asian pear variety known for its crisp, apple-like crunch and extremely sweet, juicy flesh. Named after the Japanese term for “much water,” it features a distinct golden-russet skin and is frequently prized as one of the best-tasting Asian pears for fresh eating.
Growing Asian pears is easy if you have a sunny, well drained site with a slightly acidic soil pH around 6.5. The trees are partially self-fertile and some varieties can share pollen with European pears, but it is still best to plant two Asian pear trees to enhance pollination.
