Quick Overview:

This handsome foliage plant (which can spread) forms a clump of lance-shaped leaves which are a bronzy-purple above & bronzy green beneath. This unusual cultivar of plantain forms a rosette of really stunning, large, reddish maroon leaves. The color seems more pronounced in full sun locations and the leaves contain the same medicinal qualities of other plantain varieties.

Description

This is an ornamental red-leaved form of a plant commonly thought of as a lawn weed. It forms a clump of leathery bronzy-purple leaves, which develop particularly good red color in the autumn. Insignificant spikes of green flowers should be cut off to prevent self seeding. Amazingly good ornamental value, adapting well to dry sites. Most seedlings that appear will come true to form. Probably hardy down to Zone 2 or colder. Extremely easy, this is practically a grow-anywhere plant although leaf color will be best with some direct sun. Good deer resistance.
