Picea abies ‘Little Gem’ is commonly referred to as Little Gem Norway Spruce. It is a very popular dwarf conifer that is easy to care for and slow growing. It grows as a dense, flat, globose mound with short, layered branches. New growth needles are light green turning dark green with age. It is a sport of Picea abies ‘Nidiformis’ (Bird’s Nest Spruce).

Description

Easily grown in average, acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soils in full sun. Performs well in rich sandy soils. Prefers cool summer climates, and often grows poorly south of USDA Zone 7.
