Quick Overview:

‘Murasaki’, commonly sold under the trade name of FLIRT, is a dwarf cultivar with red foliage for 9 months of the year. Staying small at 12-24″ tall with a spread of 14-20″ it is characterized by its tight, dense mounding plant habit. It is a sport of Nandina domestica‘Harbour Dwarf’ but differs in having wine red colored young foliage. Mature foliage is deep blue green in color. The cultivar name ‘MURASKI’ means purple in Japanese due to the color of new growth.

Description

Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Some tolerance for full shade, but foliage often grows best in full sun with some afternoon shade. Tolerates a wide range of soils, but prefers moist humusy ones. Best fruiting occurs when grown in groups. Single specimens may fruit poorly. This shrub is evergreen in the warm winter climates of USDA Zones 7-10.
