A dazzler in all seasons, the Groovy Glow Mahonia is an evergreen flowering shrub providing dazzling flower and foliage color and texture in the landscape. It’s super easy to grow, even in the shade, and flowers during winter, when there’s not much else blooming in the landscape. It gets its name from the “groovy” looking clustered sprays of candle-like spikes packed with yellow, orange and red flowers all on the same spike. Winter will never be dull in the garden with Groovy Glow around! Forming a very natural and lush looking upright mound 3 to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, the plant is clothed in handsome dark to medium green bamboo-like leaves arranged like leaflets on fern-like fronds. The new growth in spring is an attractive burgundy-bronze.
Groovy Glow Mahonia is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and shade to part shade. That said, the patent-owner says it will handle full sun. Very easy to maintain requiring little or no pruning to maintain its dense bushy form.
