‘Tightwad’ is the first true dwarf crapemyrtle with red red blooms. Flowers are sterile and produce no distracting seed pods. Plants grow as a dense half-circle mound with little or no pruning. New leaves are wine-red, and quickly change to purplish green, then dark green. Drought and heat tolerant. Highly resistant to powdery mildew.

Best grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Does well in loamy, clay soils with good drainage. Benefits from a slow release fertilizer. Overly fertile soils tend to produce lush foliage growth at the expense of flowering with somewhat increased susceptibility to winter injury.
