Quick Overview:

Looking for something distinctly different in a Crape Myrtle? Look no further than Ruffled Red Magic Crape Myrtles. This new Crape Myrtle has all of the great traits you love about your other Crape Myrtles, but with a few HUGE new features.

This compact plant blooms all summer with carnation-like glowing red flowers that stand out in stark contrast to the lustrous dark green foliage. And the foliage? When the flower show stops in late summer the leaves take over by turning a deep orange-red in the fall.

Like others in the Magic™ series of Crape Myrtles, Ruffled Red reblooms in late summer if the first flush of flowers is deadheaded. The plant is a strong upright grower, but compact with dense branching. It makes a great summer screen or foundation planting. It is also resistant to leaf spot and powdery mildew, which is quite a breeding accomplishment in red Crapes.

Description

Best grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Does well in loamy, clay soils with good drainage. Benefits from a slow release fertilizer. Overly fertile soils tend to produce lush foliage growth at the expense of flowering with somewhat increased susceptibility to winter injury. Water roots deeply, particularly in dry spells, but avoid wetting the foliage.  (Courtesy of Missouri Botanical Garden Plant Finder)
