Quick Overview:

‘Gold Standard’ is a medium to large hosta that grows in a mound to 22″ tall and to 36″ wide. It features wide-oval, cordate, seersuckered, yellow leaves (to 8″ long and 5″ wide) with irregular dark green margins. Leaf centers emerge chartreuse in spring but turn golden yellow as the season progresses. Yellow leaf color may eventually fade to white near the end of the season. Funnel-shaped, pinkish lavender flowers bloom in mid-summer on scapes rising to 42″ tall.  (Courtesy of Missouri Botanical Gardens Plant Finder)

Description

Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in part shade to full shade. Plants need some light morning sun in spring for development of the best golden leaf color. Tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions. Performs best in rich, moist, organic soils. Plants need consistent moisture during the growing season. Water is best applied directly to the soil beneath the leaves. Notwithstanding soil moisture preferences, ‘Gold Standard’ reportedly has better tolerance for dryish soils than many of the hostas commonly grown in gardens today.
