Quick Overview:

The Scent First® series of Border Pinks recently arrived from England and are known for their spicy fragrance, compact habit and long season of bloom. This selection forms a low cushion of grassy, grey-blue foliage topped with semi-double flowers featuring frilly, maroon, pink and white petals with a raspberry eye. An excellent addition to the sunny rock garden, alpine trough and for edging. Attractive to butterflies. Plants should be trimmed lightly after blooming to maintain their tight, compact mound. Evergreen. The flower petals of all types of Dianthus are edible.

Description

Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils in full sun. Prefers fertile, alkaline, somewhat gritty loams with good drainage. Tolerates some part afternoon shade, particularly in hot summer climates. Plants tend to die out in the center if drainage is not superior. Division may be necessary every 2-3 years. Prompt removal of spent flowers may prolong bloom period.
