Quick Overview:

Ginger Gold apples are one of the first commercial apple varieties to arrive in markets each year and were discovered as a chance seedling growing in an orchard in Virginia in the late 20th century. Ginger Gold apples are also a popular home garden variety. Unlike other early-season cultivars, Ginger Gold apples have good storage properties, allowing them to be kept for extended use. Ginger Gold apples have a sweet-tart flavor that can be consumed fresh or utilized in cooking.  Semi-dwarf rootstock M.106.

Description

Apples grow best with full sun in well drained average to loamy soil, but respond to enriched soil with better production. They prefer a slightly acidic soil pH in the range of 5.0 to 6.8.  Plant in an area where there is good air circulation.  Apple trees are not self-fruitful which means they require another apple tree of a different variety nearby to pollinate.
