Quick Overview:

The Vaccinium ashei ‘Woodard’ is a Rabbiteye variety of blueberry known for glossy foliage and an early crop of high-quality berries. Once established, this vigorously growing plant can provide up to 15 pounds of blueberries, meaning you will have enough of a crop to make pies, muffins, and more. Bell-shaped white flowers first appear in the early spring and look striking against the glossy bluish-green foliage. The plant will be covered in medium to large dark blue fruit by late spring or early summer.

Description

Vaccinium ashei grows best on acid soil and is subject to few pests and diseases. Because it is not self-fruitful, two compatible varieties should be planted next to each other to maintain growth and fruiting. If maintained with mulching, it may endure temperatures as low as 10 degrees Fahrenheit. The plants mature to heights from 3 to 6 feet, with a width of up to 4 feet. The plant has few insect or disease problems, however birds and squirrels consume its fruit.[
