Carex scaposa is native to stream sides and slopes in southern China and Vietnam. The foliage is arching and attractive, with broad blades up to 1.25” wide, narrowing at the tips. The flowers are borne on sturdy scapes—the scaposa to which the botanical name refers. It is a repeat bloomer, offering pink flowers in summer and early fall. It can take a couple of seasons to establish and become full, so patience is rewarded.
