‘Cedar Lane Red’ has blooms of an intense yellow-red, as opposed to most crape myrtles with a bluish-red cast. This relatively slow-growing plant is an important addition to the landscape palette and it is registered it at the National Arboretum. A selection made from seedlings given to Cedar Lane Farm. A semi-dwarf attaining a height of 3-4′ in 5 years. Most outstanding is its bloom which is a true red, with no blue in it. New growth is bright red, maturing to green.

Description

Best grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Does well in loamy, clay soils with good drainage. Benefits from a slow release fertilizer. Overly fertile soils tend to produce lush foliage growth at the expense of flowering with somewhat increased susceptibility to winter injury. Water roots deeply, particularly in dry spells, but avoid wetting the foliage.
